Account Manager (Seed Technology)

The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, have excellent attention to detail and excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Commercial awareness and account management skills are also a key part of the role and should be demonstrable by the successful candidate. You must be equally capable of working alone or as part of a team with an ability to remain calm and focussed when working under pressure. There will also be business travel both within the UK and Europe as part of the role.

Job summary:

 

Build and maintain strong supplier and customer relationships. Support the Head of Seed Technology to develop and increase the business in the UK and for export. Work with supplier and colleagues to develop new products/areas of expertise and take them to market. Contribute to the business plan for the Seed Technology business unit.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Build key long-term relationships with key customers and suppliers
  2. Develop the annual sales plan and budget for seed Technology sales and communicate the progress to Head of Department on a regular basis
  3. Using technical knowledge and understanding of seed treatments to help drive team strategy, initiatives, and sales
  4. Represent the company and operate as lead point for managing key 3rd party seed treatment customers and develop a long-term trusted advisor relationship, interpreting client’s requests and ensuring they are fulfilled wherever possible
  5. Implement strategic plans for Seed Technology and work with Head of Department to set and meet financial targets and drive business for existing technologies e.g. seed hygiene methods and seed treatments in new areas / new species in close collaboration with ‘Business Development team’ and contributing to the overall growth of the company
  6. Work closely with Marketing to help drive the promotion of Elsoms seed treatment and seed testing services to customers in UK/overseas and contributing to all activities including, but not limited too, open days, conferences and grower meetings
  7. Using product and market knowledge, support the logistics team with accurate prognosis and forecasts of customer requirements.

The position

Experience and qualifications:

 

  • Experience working in agriculture or related industry
  • Key account experience and/or long-term customer relationship management
  • Experience working in technical production, promotion, sales or customer service
  • Knowledge of client relationship management (CRM) applications
  • Degree in relevant subject is desirable or equivalent by experience
  • PA 1 qualification
  • BASIS (seed sellers) qualification.

Position

Temporary Summer Staff – Assisting with harvesting of cereal crops

Elsoms are looking for temporary staff to join its Wheat Breeding department, assisting with the busy harvesting and seed preparation period. Vacancies range from a period of 1 month up to 3 months, covering the period from mid-July to mid-October 2021. Our contracts are based on a 37.5 hour week, plus overtime during evenings and weekends when required. The work will be a mixture of field and barn based activities and no two days will be the same.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. At all times, maintain Elsoms’ strong Health & Safety culture and practices
  2. Assist in the harvest of selected material from the field
  3. Assist with seed preparation: including threshing, sub-sampling and racking of trial samples
  4. Pot up seedlings in the glasshouses for breeding activities
  5. Keep accurate records when assisting with threshing and racking up
  6. Once trained be able to work independently, with instruction, to ensure the task/function is completed consistently to a high standard
  7. Communicate with other members of the wheat breeding team to ensure progress is maintained and issues overcome.
