Machine Technician

This is a great opportunity to join our team in the Seed Technology facility, using state of the art equipment in a clean, modern environment. Elsoms is an industry leader in supplying and treating vegetable and agricultural seeds with a strong presence in the UK market and worldwide. You will be operating a wide range of seed technology equipment, following established working protocols and safe systems of work to produce a top-quality product for our customers. You will also be given the opportunity to broaden your skills with working in other areas of the business.

Standard working week – 37.5 hours Monday to Friday with requirement to work early/late shifts as needed, overtime may be available but not guaranteed

Person Specification

The successful candidates need to be team orientated, have good communication, numeracy, and computer skills.  A proven record in a production environment and previous experience in operating machinery will be beneficial but not necessary, training will be given.

Micropropagation Specialist

Owing to further expansion and investment we are seeking a Micropropagation Specialist in our Plant Breeding Laboratory in Spalding.
The successful applicant will work as part of our Breeding Laboratory team and have responsibility for the management of all aspects of the micropropagation service, including routine production of double haploid and tissue culture plants as well as research and development work. All of this contributing to the success for the company's breeding activities. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can demonstrate a high-level of understanding in the fields of micropropagation and plant biology.

  1. At all times, maintain a strong Health & Safety culture and practices. Maintain a clean and safe working environment, and that safe working practices are established according to Health & Safety standards, including the storing, documenting and disposal of chemicals, hazardous substances and organisms.
  2. Produce high quality double haploid and tissue culture plants. Maintain healthy donor plants and carry out micropropagation according to lab protocols.
  3. Develop micropropagation techniques for relevant crops
  4. Undertake data analysis and present results, keep procedures and protocols up to date and maintain accurate laboratory records
  5. Look to improve efficiencies within the function and reduce costs. Where possible, create intellectual property for Elsoms.
  6. Day to day management of the micropropagation function including any project work
  7. Liaise and collaborate with researchers and institutes to further develop our knowledge and improve on existing/new practices.
  8. Manage, support, and motivate team to ensure all staff are competent, trained to meet requirements for the business and able to achieve their maximum potential.
  9. Actively contribute to the departmental strategy/goals and support other departmental managers.

The position


  • Significant experience working in plant biology/micropropagation.
  • Significant experience working in a laboratory.
  • Experience developing and following laboratory protocols.
  • A graduate qualification in relevant subjects.
  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant subject, is desirable.
  • GLP/COSHH training is desirable.

Production Operative (Warehouse)

The successful candidate will be working as part of the Warehouse team to provide a quality service to all customers based upon the information supplied through the order placement process. General duties include seed cleaning / grading and receiving / despatching of orders.

Spalding, Lincolnshire


  1. Work under guidance of the Warehouse Team Leader to ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently
  2. Carry out tasks according to Microsoft Dynamic NAV diary list and schedule, maintain inventory and apply products according to NAV task instructions and protocols
  3. Complete safety checks on equipment associated to warehouse operations
  4. Take responsibility for keeping working areas clean and tidy and follow Health and Safety guidelines. Make suggestions for safer working practices
  5. Assist with any other reasonable request in order to fulfil business / production requirements

The position

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment
  • Experienced user of ERP and barcoding systems
  • English and Maths GCSE’s or equivalent
  • Forklift license (preferred) but full training will be given

We are looking for someone who can operate a range of production equipment with a high level of attention to detail. The successful candidate needs to be able to handle routine tasks and procedures whilst working alone or as part of a team with an ability to remain calm and focused when working under pressure. Good planning and organising skills are essential with good levels of communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.

You should have a can-do attitude, be reliable, punctual, and able to work in a physically demanding environment.

A flexible approach to working hours is required including overtime and shift work, especially when there are high demands for production output. You may also be required to assist in our Trials and Seed Technology operations as required.
