Position Overview Location

Crop Sales Manager

As a key member of a new team in an established business, you will have autonomy to manage and develop strong relationships with customers and suppliers, both domestically and internationally. You will work to grow high-value key accounts and identify new opportunities for business development. This role requires a proactive, commercially focused individual who can drive growth, strengthen partnerships, and deliver long-term value to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

1.     Build a clear understanding of our customer needs to drive vegetable seed sales and strengthen our market position

2.     Implement strategic plans for the crop and support the Head of International Sales to deliver financial targets

3.     Source and procure vegetable seed from our established suppliers to ensure a competitive offer for customers

4.     Lead the development and launch of new products, managing the product pipeline

5.     Maximise sales opportunities by proactively forecasting and managing stock based on product and market insights

6.     Work collaboratively with the marketing team to create and execute marketing plans for assigned crops

7.     Act as the industry-recognised specialist for your crop portfolio, representing Elsoms with authority and expertise in the market

 

The position

Qualifications

·       Degree in relevant subject is desirable or equivalent by experience
Experience
·       Proven track record in sales and key account management, with a focus on driving long-term business growth.

·       Extensive experience in managing key accounts and fostering long-term customer relationships.

·       In-depth knowledge of the crop industry (ideally vegetable seed), with a strong understanding of market trends and dynamics.

 

Skills
 

·       Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

·       Proven experience in strategic planning and execution to achieve sales targets within defined markets.

·       Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities, with a focus on driving successful business outcomes.

·       Sound understanding of logistics and supply chain management to optimize operations and delivery.

·       A history of success in commercial roles, consistently achieving business goals.

·       Demonstrated networking expertise, with the ability to build and maintain strong, long-term professional relationships.

Description of the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Purification Specialist to work towards strengthening our line maintenance team within the wheat breeding programme. The role will be responsible for the successful execution of wheat purification within the breeding programme. It is an opportunity to work within a focused, multi-disciplined breeding team and develop a broad portfolio of breeding skills.

Key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of plant material for official trials.
  • Responsible for field observations of purification material at NL-2, NL-1, and NL entries.
  • Responsibility for the harvest of single plant material.
  • Oversee preparation of purification material for drilling and execute drilling.
  • Organise and execute sample preparation for various laboratory tests.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a passion for variety maintenance/cereal breeding. You must have a drive for precision and attention to detail, be an outstanding organiser and a physically fit individual.

This job will suit you if you have excellent organisational skills and enjoy a role where efficiency, precision and attention to detail are essential, and you are comfortable with working in outdoor environments.

A-levels in a relevant subject are a minimum requirement, and the candidate will ideally have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience in line maintenance, plant breeding or similar. An agricultural or biology degree is advantageous. Forklift, PA1 and PA6 qualifications are preferred, but full training will be given if needed.

The position

Skills:

  • Practical field experience is desirable.
  • Experience working in agriculture or horticulture.
  • Experience as a seed analyst or in cereal purification is desirable.
  • Experience of seed certification is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent attention to detail including accurate record keeping.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good planning and organisation skills.
  • Good level of computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Equally capable of working alone or as part of a team.
  • An ability to work in an office environment, in the glasshouse and out in the field.
  • An ability to take a lead role in designated areas of responsibility.
  • An ability to work independently, without instruction, to ensure the task is completed consistently to a high standard.
  • An ability to handle routine tasks and procedures.
  • An ability to remain calm and focused when working under pressure.
  • An ability to communicate appropriately with team members and internal and external contacts.

Additional information

Job location: Spalding, UK. There will be the occasional work away from site which might involve overnight stays (accommodation and subsistence will be provided).

Working pattern: Full time position (37.5 hrs per week), Monday to Friday, permanent (subject to a probation period). There will be an expectation to work additional hours during peak harvest time.

Leave: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days with long service award

Seed Production Specialist

We are seeking a vegetable Seed Production Specialist to work as part of our Operations department. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, sharing the responsibility for day-to-day seed production activities. Including; planting, drilling, growing and harvesting crops. Previous knowledge of seed production would be advantageous, as would horticultural experience. You will need to be self-motivated and independent as well as able to communicate effectively in a team, in order to complete this physically demanding role. A full, clean driving license will be required.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assist in the planning & conducting of preparation, planting, growing & harvesting of all seed grown by the department
  • Help maintain appropriate records (crop & maintenance)
  • Monitor plants for growth, pests & diseases and maintain high levels of hygiene
  • Assist with maintaining the Seed Production facilities
  • Work on projects to improve the function of the department
  • Take the lead role and responsibility for maintaining the departments equipment, and caring for it’s beehives.

Wheat Breeding Seed Purification Specialist

We are seeking a Wheat Purification Specialist to work as part of our Wheat Breeding programme. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, sharing the responsibility for all aspects of the wheat purification system. Previous experience of working in a laboratory and/or in pure seed production would be advantageous. You should be self-motivated and independent as well as able to communicate effectively at all levels across the business. A full, clean driving license will be required.

  • Jointly complete field observations of purification material at NL-2, NL-1, and NL entries
  • Shared responsibility for the harvest of single plant material
  • Assist in preparation of purification material for drilling
  • Assist in the running of the electrophoresis laboratory
  • Execute sample preparation for various laboratory tests
  • Assist with various other breeding tasks as required by the Head of Wheat Breeding

The position

Qualifications

  • ESSENTIAL – A level education (science, or agricultural background preferred) or equivalent by experience
  • ESSENTIAL – Driving license
  • DESIRABLE – Experience of working in a laboratory and/or in pure seed production
  • DESIRABLE – Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent in experience
  • DESIRABLE – Forklift and trailer licenses
