Raising a glass to Mojito – Elsoms’ newest maize variety

High yielding maize variety, Mojito is the newest addition to Elsoms’ expanding arable portfolio. Joining a range of other trialled and tested varieties including Frodo, Sufaster and Neutrino, Mojito offers farmers the ability to form a complete portfolio of maize varieties from FAO 180-230.

To celebrate the launch, we’ve had a chat with our Energy, Forage and Hybrid Cereals Crop Manager, Henrietta Wells, to discover why this variety is one to watch.

Q: How has Mojito performed in trials and what was the outcome?

A: Mojito has shown itself to be a very competitive variety when looking at a maturity class of FAO 190 -200, based on data from its second year of replicated trials. The variety is not only competitive in the amount of biomass and yield per hectare it produces, but in having an excellent standing ability. This assists growers in maximising the high yields presented and ensures a safe harvest.

Q: Why is Mojito a strong choice for growers?

A: It allows a new choice with an affordable price point, Mojito presents value without compromising on quality. It is a reliable choice due to its fantastic vigour and excellent lodging resistance, and we are confident in its performance here in the UK. We have no doubt this variety has a place in many farming systems, from silage to early AD foraging.

Q: What makes Mojito different from other maize varieties?

A: Mojito is a specially selected French maize variety from our new supplier. It will bring a range of new traits into our maize portfolio, along with existing and highly successful Saaten Union varieties such as Neutrino.
