Financial Accountant

We are seeking a technically strong Financial Accountant to join the Finance team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. The successful candidate will help maintain compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements, prepare accurate financial statements (including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements) and ensure the integrity, accuracy and reliability of financial records and transactions across all group companies.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong understanding of accounting principles in a group company environment with proven experience in a Financial Accounting role. You should be a fully qualified accountant with the ability to share knowledge with colleagues, effectively communicating at all levels of the business. Effective IT skills, time management and organisational skills are essential alongside excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure financial processes and procedures are appropriate to maintain the integrity, reliability and accuracy of financial systems and data, complying to accounting standards

• Prepare financial statements for audit for group companies and liaise with auditors

• Maintain company share registers and assist with the administration of company share schemes and

share trading processes

• Control monthly consolidation process for group companies by:

▪ Coordinating monthly and annual intercompany recharge postings

▪ Ensure all intercompany transactions are posted and reconciled across group entities

▪ Maintaining up to date reconciled inter-company borrowing positions to support decision making

• Coordinate corporation tax, R&D tax credit and VAT return preparation

• Prepare balance sheet accounts and cash flow reports

• Represent the finance department in business development activities, including projects and M&A activities

• Collaborate with team members to support their development and ensure role coverage

• Work with the Management Accountant to ensure accurate reporting and provide cover as needed

• Liaise with company teams, customers, suppliers, auditors and other external stakeholders to represent the business effectively

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Genomics Specialist to join our Lab Team within the R&D department at Elsoms Seeds Ltd. Your role will be to work in our dedicated laboratories managing the internal and external genomics research projects. This includes identifying, sourcing, and developing markers/genes for commercially relevant traits, and carrying out associated bioinformatics, to enable marker assisted selection.

Your role will be to manage trials (including breeding, commercial, open day, third party and official trials), plant propagation and elite seed production, purity and multiplication. Day to day your responsibilities will be managing and developing the team and facilities, setting and delivering on projects and providing technical/agronomy support.

You will need deliver high standards of work and have a strong attention to detail. We are looking for someone with a degree in a relevant subject, strong leadership skills, and ability to manage projects to help the company achieve its goals.

Your role will be to manage our laboratory services (including micropropagation, genomics, pathology and trait discovery) which supports our breeding programmes and 3rd party customers. You will also translate our breeding and innovation goals into internal and external research projects. Day to day your responsibilities will be managing and developing the team and facilities, managing and delivering on projects, providing technical support, and networking with researchers.

Laboratory Assistant

Due to the expansion of our team, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Assistant to join our Plant Breeding team within the R&D department at Elsoms Seeds Ltd. Your role will be to work in our dedicated laboratories across three work areas: plant tissue culture, molecular biology and phytopathology. This role provides a rare opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment and develop a broad portfolio of scientific skills.

What we are looking for

The role is available to all levels, from entry to experienced, and as full training will be provided, previous knowledge of the three work areas, plant science or laboratory work is not essential.

We are looking for someone with the right attitude and willingness to get stuck in, and someone with an interest in plants and the environment.

Ideally a good GCSE or A-level qualification in a scientific subject, or experience within a laboratory environment is advantageous.

  • Assist with scoring and selection of breeding lines.

Wheat Breeding Seed Purification Specialist

We are seeking a Wheat Purification Specialist to work as part of our Wheat Breeding programme. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, sharing the responsibility for all aspects of the wheat purification system. Previous experience of working in a laboratory and/or in pure seed production would be advantageous. You should be self-motivated and independent as well as able to communicate effectively at all levels across the business. A full, clean driving license will be required.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of plant material for official trials
  • Jointly complete field observations of purification material at NL-2, NL-1, and NL entries
  • Shared responsibility for the harvest of single plant material
  • Assist in preparation of purification material for drilling
  • Assist in the running of the electrophoresis laboratory
  • Execute sample preparation for various laboratory tests
  • Assist with various other breeding tasks as required by the Head of Wheat Breeding

The position

Qualifications

  • ESSENTIAL – A level education (science, or agricultural background preferred) or equivalent by experience
  • ESSENTIAL – Driving license
  • DESIRABLE – Experience of working in a laboratory and/or in pure seed production
