EA – Force

Emergency Approval – Force

The below applies to any growers who have purchased seed with emergency approved Force seed treatment for 2024. Please read carefully and ensure you provide all necessary information to the relevant stakeholders.


Bulb Onion

Force ST ( Tefluthrin ) (MAPP no. 19042) on Bulb Onion seed 2023 / 2024.

Emergency Authorisation (EA)  number : 2719 of 2023.

For control of bean seed fly – Elsoms accepts no responsibility for the effectiveness of this treatment or any damage direct or consequential which may result therefrom.

Obligatory conditions of the approval include the following

  • Authorised in England ONLY.
  • The EA ends on : For use : 15th April 2024
  • Seed stocks must not be used after that date and cannot be carried over.
  • Maximum sowing density – 650,000 seeds per hectare
  • Seed must be drilled to at least a depth of 20mm and covered with soil once the seed has dropped and pressed down to be fully incorporated.
  • No seed should be left in the field overnight and unused seed returned to store

HCP / British Onions  are required to collate data from you on the following

  • volumes of treated seed used,
  • sowing dates,
  • area sown
  • locations of the field drilled

Salad Onion

Force ST (Tefluthrin) (MAPP no. 19042) on Salad Onion seed 2024.

Emergency Authorisation (EA) number: 0048  of 2024.

For control of bean seed fly – Elsoms accepts no responsibility for the effectiveness of this treatment or any damage direct or consequential which may result therefrom.

Obligatory conditions include the following :

Authorised in Great Britain ONLY.

Emergency Authorisation ends: 

– For placing on the market: 5 May 2024

– For use of treated seed: 30 September 2024

– For storage and disposal of stocks: 31 October 2024

Maximum sowing density is 2 million seeds per hectare

“Environmental protection” restrictions from Appendix 1 are listed below for your attention:

  • To protect birds and wild mammals, treated seed must not be left on the soil surface. Seed spillages must be collected.
  • To protect birds and wild mammals the product must be entirely incorporated in the soil; ensure that the product is fully incorporated at the end of rows.
  • Treated seed must be precision drilled.
  • Treated seed should not be broadcast.

  • Volumes of treated seed sown
  • Sowing dates
  • Area sown
  • Sowing density
  • Locations of fields drilled

Obligatory conditions include the following –

Authorised in Great Britain only.

The EA ends on

a.     For placing the treated seed on the market: 31 May  2024

b.     For use: 31 May 2024

c.     For storage and disposal of stocks: 30 June 2024

Maximum sowing density is 250,000 seeds per hectare.

Seed must be drilled to at least a depth of 20mm and covered with soil once the seed has dropped and pressed down to be fully incorporated.

No seed should be left in the field overnight and unused seed returned to store

HCP/British Leeks are obliged to collate data on the following – a template is available to help record this information.

  • Volumes of treated seed sown
  • Sowing dates
  • Area sown
  • Sowing density
  • Locations of fields drilled
